Wildlife Artist, John Threlfall, December 2024
In December 2024 we were treated to a wonderful session with the wildlife artist John Threlfall at Banchory Lodge. John gave his time most generously and we listened entranced for an hour and a half as he told of his journey to become one of the UK’s most sought after wildlife artists. He brought sketches, drawings and paintings to show how his own art has evolved over the years..
Aberdeen Art Gallery Visit, April 2023
On 20th April 2023, The Art Appreciation group enjoyed an informative and entertaining trip to Aberdeen Art Gallery with art expert Peter Yates who is based in Callander. Peter, a professional artist and lecturer spoke to the group about two very different paintings in the gallery which were particular favourites of his, 'Penelope and the Suitors' by John William Waterhouse and 'Train Landscape' by Eric Ravilious. Peter provided detailed descriptions of both the paintings in their historical context and the technical aspects of the works, which everyone appreciated. The group looks forward to a second visit by Peter in the autumn.
